Any action that induces ANXIETY, FEAR, and an atmosphere of DISTUST in your work environment constitutes workplace violence. However, we are not able to address every instance of rude or disrespectful actions that might happen at your place of work. Instead, our aim is to INVOLVE YOU IN THE PROCESS of IDENTIFYING and confronting disturbing behavior before it escalates to violence. Should these issues remain unresolved, harassment, bullying, and other threatening actions could escalate to severe, violent outcomes, including stalking and physical assault. Indeed, one act can lead to another, transforming what began as unprofessional and intolerant behavior into violence. Preventing violence in the workplace requires us to look beyond just actual physical confrontations. Any behavior that fosters a climate of fear, anxiety, or distrust is a form of workplace violence, and should be dealt with before it escalates to physical violence. Clearly, violence in the workplace has a broader impact on society. Similar to all violent crimes, workplace violence creates consequences that extend beyond the immediate victim. It erodes trust and the sense of safety you should experience while working. Therefore, violence in the workplace affects everyone, and we all have a responsibility to work towards its prevention.
